In Which I Argue with the Election Ad
I saw an election ad today, not that unusual this time of year. I won’t bore you with the details, just confess that I talk back to the TV. All the time. Of course I talk back to election ads.
This ad had the remarkably prophetic statement that utility bills would increase. Well, duh. Now they were saying that utility bills would increase if the voters didn’t vote the way the sponsors of the ad wanted them too. I wish it were true, but unfortunately I can flat out guarantee that utility bills will increase no matter which way the voters vote. I don’t need a crystal ball to know that. I don’t have to be a psychic, prophet, or prognosticator to know that. As someone who has paid utility (and other) bills for several years now, it’s obvious, bills are only going to increase.
It’s not that I wish bills would decrease. I’ve had enough history to know that before we had regular inflation that the economy just went up and down in more or less regular boom and bust cycles, with increasing prosperity followed by economic depression. I just wish my income kept pace. I just wish to maintain a status quo.
I’m not going to get that either.
