Some advice I've learned
The best advice I’ve ever gotten from anyone. I don’t mind listening to others’ advice, but I tend to test it out a bit, or at least observe it in action, before I take it to heart. What follows is the best advice I’ve gotten through the years from a variety of sources. The first source is my mother. Out of all the advice she gave me throughout the years I’ve found two things that are absolutely spot-on, tried and tested, the best. One – learn as much math as you can. You wil
Random Babblings
I’ve been trying to think of topics to blog about. I don’t really think of myself as an expert on any one thing. I’m more of a generalist. I know a moderate amount on a variety of subjects. Minor home repairs? No sweat. Math and science? I love it. Parenting? Raised five kids, got 3 grandkids, it’s not a record, but I can recognize when a toddler is tired or hungry or just mad. Sports? Okay, you got me there. I don’t know anything about sports. My high school gym teachers wer
My Last Rant on Public Transit. Probably
I promise this is the last of my blogs on public transit. Well, at least for a while. I can’t promise I won’t ever blog about public transit again. The biggest headache for me is the time sink. It eats up too much time. And the timing between the different parts is atrocious. If I didn’t lose between 5 to 15 minutes between each transfer the whole trip would only be about 15 minutes longer than driving myself. The best idea I ever heard for mass transit/public transit was gen
Commuting
As I said last time I'm commuting long hours. Unfortunately, I can't use all that time writing, because I have to keep switching from bus to rail, etc. I do get about one hour straight on the bus. That's when I'm writing this, on the bus on my way home. I sleep on the way in. It's still dark at that time. It's way too early at that time. I'm not a morning person. I'm awake and writing on the way home. While it is nice to get some time to write, without the possibility of dist
My Very Strange, Really Weird Life
My life is usually strange. Weird things happen all the time. It’s gotten to where I’m not surprised or particularly fazed when someone says, “It’s not supposed to do that,” or “That’s never happened before,” or “Well, that’s a stumper.” So most of the time when strange thing happen I can take it in stride. Me, my husband, my kids, we all seem to break the curve somehow. It almost seems normal any more. Almost. This last couple of weeks or so has really thrown me. I can’t say
There's a good reason, really
Okay, so you deserve an explanation for my absence this month. Two good things happened. One my latest grandchild was born. I spent about a week and a half there, off and on, watching the older two while Mom and Dad were galavanting off to the hospital for number three. Then I got a job. Yipee. I am once again employed. We can keep eating. However I now have a 60 mile, one way, commute. That is kicking my butt. I either have to drive, putting 120 miles a day on my old car (ov
